A Chance Animal Rescue

A Chance Animal Rescue is a private registered animal rescue dedicated to the rehabilitation and placement, in loving homes, of those dogs we take into care.

Our dogs come to us from other shelters, rescues, sympathetic police services, as well as those abandoned by their owners.  We do not refuse any breed or age of dog at A Chance Animal Rescue Inc.

In cases where dogs cannot learn to trust, they remain with us to live out their lives in peace.

We do not euthanize dogs except those with a fatal injury or terminal illness with no quality of life.

We work with a renowned behaviourist to ensure our dogs can be placed in new homes without cause for concern.

Animals in Need of a New Address

“Animals in Need of a New Address” is an informal group of individuals who got together in 2013 to take dogs out of very bad situations. That year, we placed about 25 companion animals.

We, as volunteers got to know each other very well, so we decided to move on and find a way to help other companion animals in difficult situations. We opted to help individual companion animals from the general public who need to be re-homed and are in difficult situations. Sometimes, we have companion animals under our wings that other rescues will not take because of behavioral or health issues. We usually have at the most 2 -3 companion animals in our care at the same time.

We also provide support to individuals who want to re-home their companion animals themselves. We guide them, ensuring they are aware of all obstacles in placing a companion animal privately. Cats in this area, have no rescue to go to if they are surrendered by their owner. We provide the owners who contact us, with all the support possible in order for them to be able to find a home for their cat(s). e.g. placing 7 cats from the same household in a couple of weeks because the family is loosing their home.

We are also involved in home visits with potential adopters; the transport of companion animals to rescues, the vet, foster persons and adopters’ homes; and providing temporary fosters to people who would otherwise have to surrender their animal because of illness, surgery, family situation, etc.

People also contact us to adopt companion animals. We guide them with the research on breeds, on how to decide which companion animal is best for them considering their lifestyle, we link them to the rescues who may have under their wing the type of companion animal they want to adopt.

We are honest and open with the owners, adopters and fosters. Sometimes we need to lower expectations. Sometimes, we encourage owners to do all they can to keep their companion animal. Sometimes we need to place the animals very quickly.

In 2017, we have reached a milestone 150 companion animals safe just in time for Canada 150th Birthday. Quite a feat considering we are at the most 2 individuals and we place companion animals, one at a time.

Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario

All basset hounds who come into our care are spayed/neutered, provided with any necessary medical care and brought up to date on vaccinations.

They are loved and cared for in a foster home where their personalities and individual needs are assessed. They are then placed into suitable adoptive homes.

We do our utmost to ensure each basset is matched to the right family, but if for any reason the adoption does not work out, we require that the dog be returned to rescue... at any time throughout the life of the dog.

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC) is dedicated to the safety and welfare of single breed and mixed breed Boston Terriers in Canada.

Our program takes in Boston Terriers that are abandoned, no longer wanted, or that can no longer be cared for, rehabilitating and caring for each dog until they can be matched with a carefully screened new home.

Along with veterinarians, trainers and other dog-related professionals, our dedicated volunteers work hard to ensure each dog receives medical and other care necessary to ready them for adoption.

BTRC volunteers work to educate the public about the Boston Terrier breed, and the considerations of owning and caring for a Boston Terrier. We promote the benefits of spaying and neutering, and provide owners with guidance and referrals to help them deal with issues which may otherwise require them giving up their pet.

Cat Rescue Network's motto  is to "until there is none, save one".  We live out this motto by responding to emergency situations and taking in cats off the street.  These cats go directly into foster care, volunteers' homes, where they begin to receive the love and medical attention they deserve.

Collie Rescue Network

Collie Rescue Network is a national, all-volunteer rescue group dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Rough and Smooth Collies in Canada who have been surrendered, abandoned, neglected or abused.  Our mission also includes educating the public about responsible pet ownership in general and the care of the Collie breed in particular.

Please be sure to read our Adoption Process page prior to submitting an application.  Our goal with each and every dog that comes into the care of Collie Rescue Network is to make that perfect match between the dog and your family.  Just like people, each Collie is an individual with his/her own special needs, quirks, likes, dislikes and an individual personality.  Not every Collie is right for every home (some Collies are couch potatoes, some would make great agility partners, some are quiet and laid-back in the house and others will bark at every falling leaf that blows past the house).  Our adoption process is designed to help make that perfect match happen. If you are unable or unwilling to complete all of the steps outlined below we will be unable to assist you with an adoption through our rescue.

Country Cats Sanctuary

Here at "Country Cat Sanctuary" my aim is to find homes for the abandoned cats I rescue. Regardless of how long it takes, I will find each cat a new home with someone who will provide it with loving care and attention for the rest of its natural life.

When I place a cat in your home, I want to ensure that you and your cat will enjoy many happy years to-gether. However, if the adoption dosen't work out (or if the adopter must give up the cat at any time) "Country Cat Sanctuary" will willingly take the cat back and find another suitable home.

All the cats are wormed, fixed and vaccinated. I know my cats well and guarentee them, if your not happy with your choice I insist you bring the cat back and I will happily return your adoption fee.

There is a small adoption fee for the cats to help cover some of the costs. This also helps me continue to help other cats.

Friends of Abandoned Pets

Who knew in 1992 when Friends of Abandoned Pets was officially established, that 24 years later our volunteers would still be helping cats and dogs in our community.

The amount of volunteer hours over the past 24 years has been staggering – and we’ve done it all: driving to help rescue a cat or dog in a dangerous situation; sitting out overnight with traps, trying to catch kittens, dogs and cats; giving advice related to the well-being of cats and dogs; taking part in major dog rescues; sitting with a traumatized cat or dog for hours and hours; medicating; force feeding; organizing dog walks, bake, book and garage sales and other fundraisers; reuniting lost pets with their owners; placing dogs and cats in permanent homes.

Even in the years when there were limited funds, and there were many of those, we were always able to help, in some way. Our philosophy has always been that while we can’t save every stray or abandoned cat or dog, we can make a difference in the lives of individual cats and dogs. And, we have been true to that philosophy throughout our existence.

We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past 24 years and are looking forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2017.

Furry Tales Cat Rescue

Furry Tales is a foster based agency located in Smiths Falls Ontario.
Our primary goal is to assist cats (older and middle aged) who have been displaced, abandoned or at high risk of being euthanized in the Quebec pound system - an antiquated system that sees 75% of all cats intake euthanized within 2 weeks of arrival.

We work diligently to pull these cats to safety within our rescue and co-ordinate with an amazing group of transporters - Freedom Drivers Animal Rescue Transports.

We work in conjunction with other area rescues to ensure the most urgent cases are brought into care.

Rescuing animals is a never ending cycle and only with an amazing group of supporters can we succeed.

We rely on donations for funding as the adoption fees do not cover the total cost of vetting for each cat brought through the rescue.

We also conduct our own fundraisers such as Online Auctions, Pet Adoption Days, raffles and jewelry sales to ensure each cat brought into care is vet treated and brought to maximum health prior to adoption.

Horse Rescue Ontario & Sanctuary

Each year thousands of horses suffer from physical and psychological abuse.  These equines need protection.  It is our sincere goal to help as many horses as possible to have the safe, happy retirement that they deserve after years of devotion and loyal service to the humans who used them for showing, racing or pleasure riding.  We are a compassionate group of volunteers dedicated to rescue as many horses as possible from slaughter, neglect, and abuse and to find permanent loving homes for them when possible or to retire here where they are loved and safe.

Every penny goes to the horses for feed, hay, medical care and other necessities.  There will be no tomorrow for many unwanted horses, however with your help we can save many that otherwise would perish.

Sometimes there are horses available for adoption.  Most of the horses here presently are lame and unable to be ridden but many would make a good companion horse.

Kawartha Horse Adoption – Freedom Valley Horses

I am Christine Markle-Welch, my husband is Howie Welch, we started our rescue in May 08 as a result of watching so many nice horses end up going for meat. To date we have saved 65 horses from that terrible end and are always ready to help more. We are a non profit organization although we are not yet registered, we believe that profiting from our horses situation would be wrong. Our goal is to save and find homes for as many horses as we possibly can and work on training those who need it so that they won't end up in that position again. I am blessed by my role in each of their lives and not a day goes by that I am not grateful for the horses that we have here, and my already adopted sweethearts and their new loving families. Our own personal pets are, Follie, my Arab/Standardbred cross mare, Mumford, our baby mule (mumfy for short), and our very large & very friendly goat Jacob.

I am thrilled to announce the addition of Tanya Smith, trainer extraordinaire, to our team (!!!! Tanya has a natural, non brutal & kind way of training and totally bombproofing a horse. She specializes in gaited horses, many trainers are not familiar with the requirements of training a gaitied horse and can screw it up, making the training to gait even more difficult. Upon leaving Tanyas care your horse will be pretty much bombproof, road and trail safe, any other issues can also be addressed. 'We are so happy to have Tanya on board, we have had other trainers, but Tanya is very special! and does a fabulous job. Thanks Tanya!! Yay!!! Our adoption fees go towards saving the "next one(s)"(it is a snowball effect), please, if you or someone you know may be interested in one of our babies please don't hesitate to contact us. It is hard to have to let one go for meat just because we don't have the funds!

From small to large, puppies to seniors, calm to active, and everything in between, we have many wonderful dogs waiting for a forever home to call their own and often waiting for a foster family to provide a temporary loving home.

All rescued dogs receive whatever veterinary care they require, everything from dentistry to surgery to help correct an uncomfortable or painful medical condition.

Kindred Farm Rescue

Kindred Farm Vision: The provision of a safe, experienced, educated and sufficiently resourced farm facility that provides refuge/sanctuary for equines destined for, or at imminent risk of slaughter, with a view to re-habilitating them sufficiently that they can then be appropriately re-homed, without again ending up at risk of slaughter, abuse or mistreatment.  And, in the event that they prove not to be candidates for successful rehabilitation, to provide an acceptable alternative through humane euthanasia or the provision of life-long sanctuary.

We love each and every one of our horses!  And Tanya has a special love and appreciation of Thoroughbreds.

Some of the horses featured here are ready to be sold, while others may still be in the assessment or rehabilitation stage.  Those that are for sale must go to approved homes with a contract.  References are required.

A pre-purchase vet exam is always recommended.  We will make available all vet records, x-rays (if any) and any history we have or any knowledge of health/behaviour issues.  Our policy is 100% disclosure.  Our priority is appropriate re-homing: A good fit is the most important criteria!  First come, first serve doesn’t work at KF.

Should you purchase a horse and decide that it is not suitable, you can request to return it to KF, but your money will not be refunded because it will already have been spent on other horses.

Kozy Kritters Animal Rescue

Kozy Kritters is a small family run animal rescue who's aim is to help with the re-homing of various "pocket pets" that other rescues often overlook.  In operation since 2012,  we relocated to Embrun, Ontario 2015 and have focused our efforts towards those animals in need within or near Russell Township.

We recognize that there are times when people are unable to continue to care for their pets, often times due to no fault of their own.  We don't charge a fee for surrenders or adoptions and we sustain our operation on donations only.  Check out our site, learn more about our operation and feel free to ask questions.  If you feel moved to assist us in our work please visit our gofundme campaign.

Our goal is to find the most suitable environment for each specific pet and we reserve the right to refuse an adoption and/or foster situation. We want our pets to enjoy a forever home and we strive to achieve that through our procedures and policies.

Marshall’s Dog Rescue

Marshall's Dog Rescue is a non-profit dog rescue in Perth, Ontario, created in late July 2013.

Although we rescue dogs of all sizes, ages and condition, Marshall's Dog was created especially to help fill a need in the local rescue world, for shelter dogs whose time is up. Whether for population control, or health issues. We believe every dog deserves at chance at finding a forever home.

We are a privately run rescue that is completely not-for profit. It has only one goal, rescuing dogs and uniting them with the forever home they have been waiting for. This rescue is privately run, and the dogs are fostered in our home; they live as one of our own until their special human is found. Marshall's Dog Rescue is not a shelter.

We are a volunteer, foster-based organization which takes in dogs from emergency shelters, local pounds, SPCAs, puppy mill seizures, and hoarding situations. We then try to find the perfect forever home for these animals.

Usually within three days. Should our dogs need to be spayed/neutered or require dental surgery or other medical needs they will not be put up for adoption until they get a clear bill of health from our vet. This is our policy. We welcome each dog that comes into our care and add more info to come.... We will then post them for adoption when they have received the necessary medical needs, surgeries and have fully recovered, and our vet deems them ready to be put up for adoption. Our rescue is all about the well being of our dogs. Thank you for supporting Safe With Us Dog Rescue.

The backyard conservation fund of Canada (BCFC)

Firstly, the BCFC exists to help raise and allocate funds to provide educational programming in areas with limited access to it. There are many people who lack access to programming about conservation because of financial state or geographical isolation. The BCFC contracts some of Canada’s top environmental educators to facilitate their programming in theses areas.

Secondly, we help in re homing unwanted pet reptiles. Throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec there are many unwanted pet reptiles that are in need of new loving homes. For a small adoption fee we help to quarantine, rehabilitate (when necessary) and re-home unwanted pet reptiles. There are always several species of reptiles being housed at the BCFC and in need of adoption.

Westies In Need

If you are drawn to Westies because, "they are so cute" please be advised that their looks can be deceptive. The West Highland white terrier was bred to hunt and kill vermin in the Scottish highlands. He is tough, hardy, independent, and tenacious. This makes him a wonderful companion for those who appreciate and are charmed by the terrier temperament, but possibly a problem for the person who wants a gentle-natured little dog bred primarily for cuddling.

We receive more qualified applications from very fine homes than we have Westies to place, and it may take several months to put the right person with the right dog.

We are sorry, but we can not accept applications from families who have children under the age of 8 years old. We also strive to place our Westies in smoke free homes. We adopt our Westies only to folks who live in Ontario or Quebec.

Westminster Pet Sanctuary

Westminster is a dedicated, hard working, registered charity. All of our members and volunteers are unpaid so 100% of every dollar donated goes towards the critter's care. We do this because all creatures big and small deserve to know what love is and we do not mind showing them!

Unlike some other shelters, our animals are not kept in cages. In order to better socialize them - they live as members of our families either at the Sanctuary or in a foster home. By the time you adopt them they will have had LOTS of contact with not only people, but other cats, dogs, and various other creatures!

We are a 100% "no kill" Sanctuary and will only euthanize a pet if it is in unimaginable pain that can never be recovered from. This is a belief that we do not take lightly. Our Sanctuary has never euthanized an animal due to space limitations, money, illness, or age. If the animal does not find a home it stays with us.

Westminster needs committed MONTHLY donors to keep us going, please we beg of you to help us, in our work with only the wonderful special need animals, give as little as $5 a month, or anything you can afford,EVERY DOLLAR HELPS these special needs animals that need our help or will die

We employ only positive reward-based methods when interacting with the animals. Our philosophy is that they should be "free to just be." Each day we learn more as we explore the relationship between humans and non-humans in an environment that emphasizes mutual respect and appreciation.
